The Blue Note session "Profile" is a classic session that shows come of the blues aspects of Sonny Clark but is more straight ahead.Pearson could do it all but unfortunately his own output of music after the Alfred Lion Period when Francis Wolff too over and Pearson too the reigns of A&R man (from I believe Ike Quebec) changed to junk as did much of the output i the late Livery Period.Wasn't his fault jazz was changing and the new commercial sound (lot's of B-3 combos and more commercial band arrangements) was change of the times. But this is earlier session was before all that in 1961 and with regular drummer Lex Humphries and bassist Thomas Howard this LP (originally named Angel Eyes") was put out on Polydor in 1961.The songs are great from "I Am An Old Cowhand" by Mercer, two originals by Pearson "Say You're Min" and "Le Carousel" and the movie theme "Exodus" (done by many artists many times after movie was released),"the classic "Bags Groove" and ending with "Jeanine" another Pearson penned tune. Not sure about the Jazzline release but earlier Black Lion "Bags Groove" had alt.takes of 1,2,and 3.This one to add if your a Blue Note Hound or just love the music of great pianist who was among the best of the disciples of Bud.In fact as the liner notes the reviewer says he's a post be-bop player in the Al Haig vein and that it's.He was not an iconoclastic innovator like Elmo Hope or Phineas Newborn but his playing is fluid and beautiful. There were so many giants back then Pearson should not be forgotten among the Wynton Kelly's and Sonny Clark's.CheersChazzYou are now being hypnotized-go to Jazz Foundation Organization a flip them some shekels for the great work they do in these hard times and any time.
